Walk For Hope -
Please join us - October 7th for the 2006

The
seventeenth annual Walk for Hope will be held on Saturday, October
7, 2006 at the 17th Street Park on the Virginia Beach
boardwalk. Festivities began at 9:00 a.m. and the Walk began
at 10:00 a.m. The 2006 Hosts include the Virginia Beach
Community Trust for Persons with Psychiatric Disabilities
Exempt-Fund, Beach House, Inc., the Alliance for the Mentally
Ill Virginia Beach Chapter, Virginia Beach Mental Health
Consumers’ Association, and the Virginia Beach Community
Services Board.

Who Should Attend:
Everyone! We need your support and help! Statistics show
that 40 million people in America have some form of mental
illness in any given year. Chances are that someone in your
life is affected directly or indirectly by a mental illness.
The good news is that mental illnesses are highly treatable,
but the community depends on the help of donations to keep
effective programs running.
Donations:
We are in the process of reaching out to community businesses
for donations of items that can be used as door prizes for
Walk for Hope participants. Any item would be appreciated!
Contributors will be publicly recognized; therefore, the
hundreds of people that attend the Walk will be aware of your
donation.
Mental illness affects one in five families. For some, the
financial effects can be devastating. Dental needs can often
go unaddressed because there are no resources for providing
much-needed care. The funds raised by t-shirt sales and
donations for the Walk will primarily benefit the consumers of
services within the Mental Health Substance Abuse Division of
the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services.
Volunteers:
The Walk For Hope planning meetings are open to the public.
If you would like to help, please join us! Check the event
calendar for meetings leading up to the event.
The Virginia Beach Community Trust-Exempt Fund is a host of
the Walk for Hope. Donations made to the Exempt Fund can be
tax deductible. Their tax identification number is 54-6425175.
